FED participates at the NDIA Beyond Phase II Conference

FED staff attended the NDIA Beyond Phase II Conference held at Palm Desert, California, September 2-4, 2008.

June Chocheles, FED Transition Manager on the DARPA SBIR transition pilot program, moderated a DARPA panel discussion to spotlight three SBIR companies who shared their perspective on technology transition approaches, issues, and needs. DARPA SBIR Program Manager, Susan Nichols opened the discussion with an overview of the DARPA SBIR program and direction of the DARPA Transition Support Pilot Program which is being implemented by the FED. Three SBIR companies featured were Anita D'Amico, Director, Secured Decisions, a division of Applied Visions, Inc.; Roger Buelow, Chief Technology Officer, Energy Focus, Inc.; and Scott Velasquez, President of V-Corp Technologies.

FED President Mary Ann Beyster also participated on a panel discussion titled Defense Technologies for First Responder Applications: Identification, Evaluation, Commercialization, Transition. Panelists included Don Lapham, Director, DoD 1401 Technology Transfer Program; Marlene Owens, Technology Transfer Program Manager Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate; and Lou Kelly, Chairman Center for Commercialization of Advanced Research. Mary Ann shared views from the DARPA SBIR transition about dual use applications in military and homeland security.
