Letter From Mary Ann Beyster
March 2006
When I was asked to head up the Foundation for Enterprise Development (FED) by my father, SAIC founder Dr. J. Robert Beyster, I was deeply honored. I have had the extraordinarily good fortune of watching him build one of America’s truly great businesses, and I have seen first hand the remarkable power of an entrepreneurial scientific enterprise.
Although times have changed in the decades since my father and his small group of persistent technical entrepreneurs started SAIC — and, then, with the help of many others, grew the company to its Fortune 500 status — the principles they followed are timeless and transferable. It’s a privilege for me to be a steward of this legacy and to help future generations of technical entrepreneurs understand and follow these principles.
As we embark on our next 20 years, I am excited about what the future holds for the FED, and for the many organizations we will touch. Within this website, you will discover who we are, what we do, and what we believe. If these prospects excite you, then I invite you to join us by contributing your ideas, your energy, and your hearts. In the words of the poster that hung in my father’s office over the last three decades, “None of us is as smart as all of us.”
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Beyster
